Ventura County YIMBY endorses Gabe Teran for Oxnard City Council District 2
Last November, we endorsed nine pro-housing candidates for local office across Ventura County. Four of those won, including Carmen Ramirez in her race for County Supervisor. When Ramirez left her seat on the Oxnard City Council vacant to move to the Board of Supervisors, 15 applicants filed to be appointed to her spot. Five of those applicants completed our questionnaire.
After reviewing those five responses in February, one stood out as consistently supportive of the housing we need to make our communities more affordable, inclusive, and sustainable: Gabe Teran’s. We were proud to endorse for the appointment, doubly so when he stood strong on housing when questioned by current councilmembers and ended up nabbing the appointment.
Teran has continued to support housing on City Council, from speaking favorably of and voting for the downtown Homeless Solutions Center to advocating density in the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan.
In November, District 2 voters will elect their councilmember, and Teran is running to keep his seat against Tai Hartley (who applied for the February appointment) and Eduardo Huerta. We invited all three candidates to complete our questionnaire, while offering Teran and Hartley the option to keep their responses from February. Teran agreed to re-use his February responses, Hartley didn’t respond, and Huerta didn’t complete the questionnaire.
So, with at least as much enthusiasm as eight months ago, we endorse Gabe Teran for Oxnard City Council District 2 in the special election on November 2.
